A LITTLE ABOUT MIKE

The bills matter.
So does the life
around them.

I'm Mike Layne—an economics teacher, entrepreneur, husband, and dad of three boys. I share practical ideas about money, work, family, and the everyday choices that add up.

Sometimes we'll run the numbers. Sometimes we'll wonder how feeding a family became a major financial event.

WHERE I'M COMING FROM

A few different jobs.
One point of view.

Teaching economics means spending a lot of time asking why. Why does something cost what it does? What are we giving up when we make a choice? Who ends up carrying the cost? Those questions are useful well beyond a classroom.

Building businesses adds another perspective. An idea can sound great until you account for the time, the expenses, and the work it takes to make it useful to someone else. I like exploring what's possible and being honest about what it requires.

Being a husband and a dad keeps the bigger picture in view. Money decisions affect the people we love. So do our schedules, our priorities, and how much of ourselves is left at the end of the day.

That mix is what you'll find here: clear explanations, practical ideas, honest observations, and a little humor when life gets expensive or ridiculous.

WHAT MATTERS TO ME

Build a good life.
Pay attention to who's in it.

Faith that shapes everyday life.

My faith informs how I think about responsibility, generosity, and the way we treat people. That belongs in ordinary decisions, too.

Work that's useful.

I respect effort, curiosity, and the willingness to learn. A good idea should help someone do something, understand something, or make a better decision.

Family, time, and perspective.

The people around us deserve our attention. I care about making room for them—and keeping a sense of humor while we figure the rest out.
